(GREENSBORO, N.C.) – Following a six-month national search, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (HPCG), one of the largest nonprofit hospice and palliative care organizations in central North Carolina, today announced Kristen Wither Yntema, MBA, MHSA as its new president and chief executive officer.  Yntema will be the third CEO to lead the 36-year-old nonprofit hospice. She succeeds Patricia A. Soenksen, who will retire in March 2017 after nearly 10 years with the organization.

Yntema will assume her new role at HPCG on Feb. 20, which also includes leadership of the Hospice Foundation of Greater Greensboro (HFGG), HPCG’s supporting organization.

A proven leader in the health care field, Yntema is the Vice President of Regional Development and Innovation at Advanced Home Care (AHC) in High Point, N.C. Her passion for health care and commitment to serving others began early on.  At just 15, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked in that role throughout her undergraduate education.

“I credit that experience with teaching me how to connect with people,” Yntema said.  “Health care allows us to be a trusted resource for people at time when they are most vulnerable.”

She went on to become an accomplished health care administrator, holding two advanced degrees.

“Our board is very pleased to welcome Kristen,” said Mary B. Magrinat, chair, HPCG board of directors. “HPCG has experienced tremendous growth for nearly a decade. Continuing this growth will become increasingly challenging in our evolving health care environment. It will require business acumen, strategic thinking and successful partnerships. In addition and equally important, it will require a leader who is dedicated to quality patient care. Our board is confident that Kristen has the skills and qualities to meet these needs and is the ideal person to lead our organization at this time.”

“I was delighted to hear the exciting news from our Board of Directors that Kristen Yntema has been named the new President and CEO,” Soenksen said. “I first met Kristen in the 1990s when she was interviewing as an Executive Fellow at Cone Health and have witnessed her progressive career development. Kristen is an intelligent, poised, professional and friendly leader who will be a positive representative for both HPCG and HFGG.  And importantly, Kristen has the experience and skills needed to help HPCG deal with the fast-changing dynamics of health care in the future.”

In her current role, Yntema has been responsible for managing AHC’s $175 million sales budget, providing strategic leadership across five regions in two states. Prior to that, she was the Executive Director of Cone Health’s Health Services Division, where she exceeded customer satisfaction targets for all departments each year.
