Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro Presents Dr. Larry Churchill

Greensboro, NC – Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro (HPCG) is celebrating its 30th Anniversary with a special presentation by nationally-recognized medical ethicist, Larry R. Churchill, Ph.D. His presentation, Exploring the Healing Power of Relationships, is offered to healthcare professionals, as well as the general public and will take place at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at Dana Auditorium on the Guilford College Campus.

For the past five years, Churchill has been researching the aspects of health care relationships that make them therapeutic. His belief is relationships with clinicians, in addition to drugs, medical or surgical procedures, have healing power. Churchill was graduated with a BA from Rhodes College, and did his post-graduate work at Duke University, receiving his Masters in Divinity in 1970, and his Ph.D. in Religion and Culture in 1973.

Churchill joined the Vanderbilt faculty in 2002 as the Ann Geddes Stahlman Professor of Medical Ethics. He holds the appointments in the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, as well as in the Divinity School and in the Department of Philosophy. Prior to Vanderbilt, Churchill was Professor of Social Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he served as Department Chair from 1988-1998.

HPCG, a non-profit agency serving Greater Greensboro since 1980, is situated on an eight-acre campus at 2500 Summit Avenue.
