Human Race 5k Run Benefits Patient Assistance Fund

The 2013 Human Race was held on Saturday, March 31 at the Greensboro Coliseum. This 5K run event, sponsored by the Greensboro Volunteer Center, raises funds for Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro’s (HPCG) patient assistance fund.

The Human Race is a nationwide, community charity walk and run that allows participants to raise money for their favorite nonprofit. The Triad’s local Human Race is managed by the Volunteer Center of Greensboro, Inc. For the last 17 years, nonprofits across our community have raised more than $3.65 million through this fundraiser.

Contributions from the community enable HPCG to serve those who are unable to pay for their care, provide services for grieving and medically fragile children and bereavement counseling and education for adults.

HPCG accepts patients based on medical eligibility and need, not an ability to pay. While HPCG bills Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance when available, some patients have no ability to cover the cost of their care. On average, nearly 10 percent of HPCG’s program costs are un-reimbursed.

HPCG, a nonprofit organization serving Guilford County and surrounding areas for more than 30 years, is situated on an eight-acre campus at 2500 Summit Avenue. HPCG provides physical, emotional and spiritual support for children and adults faced with a life-limiting illness, as well as their caregivers and families.
