Commemorative Bricks

This program began in response to some of our patient families’ search for meaningful ways to make a lasting tribute to a loved one. Annually, commemorative bricks, engraved with the name of the person whose memory you want to honor, are installed in the walkways of our Rose Garden at Beacon Place or the Kids Path Garden.

Our lovely campus and grounds provide a comforting and healing presence for all who visit. Our gardens have been nationally recognized in Health & Garden and we believe the addition of these commemorative bricks has only enhanced our gardens’ power to comfort those who have had a loss.

Commemorative bricks may be purchased for $100. Click here to order a Commemorative Brick online, or click here for a Commemorative Brick order form.

Dealing with Traumatic Events

Understand that shock, fear and anger are normal reactions to a tragic event. It is natural to feel deeply affected by a tragedy, even though you are not directly involved. Beware that past losses may come to mind again. It is better to express these feelings in constructive ways rather than suppress. Shift your questions from "why" to "what can I do to help?" Take action and become part of the many opportunities to volunteer, to make or send something to the victims' families. Take care of yourself and eat balanced meals, and discharge some of your feelings through exercise. Limit your exposure to the news surrounding these events. Talk with supportive people who care about you. Draw strength from your spiritual beliefs. If you would benefit from counseling call the Counseling and Education Center at 621-5565.

How to Help Another Who is Grieving

Often times when a friend or loved one is grieving, we aren’t sure what to do or say. This leaves us feeling inadequate and awkward when it comes to offering support. However, the care and support of friends and loved ones is important throughout the healing process of grief. If you can simply communicate that you care by your willingness to listen, you can provide much needed support to your grieving friend.

Grief Counseling through Counseling and Education Center

You experience grief because of the deep love and connection you have to someone who has died. The way you deal with grief is unique. Our CEC bereavement staff honors that uniqueness.

Talking about the loss of a loved one and the adjustment issues involved can be helpful to you and others who grieve. Because the needs of a family and main caregiver continue after the death of a loved one, hospice care continues throughout the first year of bereavement as grief support. HPCG makes this support available at no charge to those served by HPCG as well as anyone in the Greater Greensboro area grieving the loss of a loved one.
